About Tag NFC

Tag NFC works on iPhone 7 and later models, which have built-in NFC hardware. Background tag reading (automatic detection) requires iPhone XS or later.
Yes. All NFC operations happen locally on your device. Tag NFC does not collect, store, or transmit any personal data. No accounts, no tracking, no cloud.
NFC Reading & Writing
You can write URLs, plain text, Wi-Fi credentials (SSID and password), contact cards (vCard), phone numbers, email addresses, and custom NDEF records to any writable NFC tag.
Tag NFC supports all major NFC tag types including NTAG213, NTAG215, NTAG216, MIFARE Classic, MIFARE Ultralight, and NFC Forum Type 1-5 tags.
Yes. Tag NFC can erase the contents of writable NFC tags, restoring them to a blank state. Note that locked tags cannot be erased.
Locking an NFC tag is permanent and irreversible. Once locked, the tag's content cannot be changed, erased, or overwritten. Only lock a tag when you are certain about its contents.
Automation & Smart Home
You can set up Apple Shortcuts that trigger when your iPhone taps a specific NFC tag. Tag NFC can bypass the 'Ask Before Running' confirmation, making automations instant. Place NFC stickers around your home to trigger scenes, routines, and shortcuts.
